Srinagar - Known as the 'Venice of the East'

Srinagar, the summer capital of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, is situated in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of river Jhelum. It is situated at an altitude of 1,585 m above the sea level and is bounded by the beautiful and magnificent Himalayan Ranges.

Srinagar, literally meaning ‘City of Wealth & Abundance' in Sanskrit, was founded around 150 A.D. by King Pravarasen II. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations of India, attracting thousands of visitors every year.

Also called as the “Venice of the East”, Srinagar is known for its natural beauty, gardens, lakes, shikara and houseboats. It is also famous for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits. Best Time to visit Srinagar

The best season to visit Srinagar is from April to June; but if you want to enjoy the snow-covered peaks and various adventurous sports, then the ideal time to visit is from December to February.

How to reach Srinagar

Srinagar is easily accessible by air as it has its own airport; and the nearest railway station is the Jammu Tawi Railway Station which is about 305 kms from Srinagar.
