Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, is situated in Amer, 11 kms from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The original fort was built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 A.D. and was completed by Mirza Raja Jai Singh and Sawai Jai Singh, over a period of about two centuries.
Amer Fort is located on a hill, dominating the Maota Lake. The crystal mirror image of Amer Fort on the still water of the lake seems to be a beautiful illusion. Amer Fort is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Jaipur with thousands of visitors visiting the fort every year.
Amer Fort is built of white marble and red sandstone, and depicts a perfect blend of the Rajputana, Hindu and Mughal forms of architecture. The main entrance of the fort is called ‘Suraj Pol’ which leads to the main courtyard called ‘Jaleb Chowk’. Tourists can also enjoy the elephant safari in order to reach the fort from the bottom of the hill, which proves to be a great experience. A sound and light show is also conducted at the fort every evening.

Amer Fort is open on all days, except public holidays, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The best season to visit is from October to March.
