Umaid Bhawan Palace - Rajputana style Palace

One of the world’s largest royal residences in Jodhpur, India

Umaid Bhawan Palace is located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It was built in 1929 till 1943, and is among one of the world’s largest royal residences with 347 rooms.

Umaid Bhawan Palace was earlier called as Chittar Palace, because it is actually located on the highest point of Jodhpur, called as Chittar Hill. Later, it was named after Maharaja Umaid Singh. The palace is built of special golden-yellow sandstone and it took 14 years for its completion. The palace is a perfect example of the Rajputana style of architecture and has magnificent balconies, gardens, terraces and courtyards.

Umaid Bhawan Palace also has a museum, called as Umaid Museum, wherein an exclusive range of items that belong to the Maharaja and the royal family are displayed. A part of the Palace was converted into a hotel in 1972 which is managed by the Taj Group of Hotels. The palace is equipped with facilities like squash, tennis, billiards, health club, and swimming pool.

The best season to visit the Umaid Bhawan Palace is from October to March. The palace is open on all days from 9 AM to 5 PM.
