Mysore Palace - Styled in Indo-Saracenic Architecture

One of the most visited monument of India

The Mysore Palace, also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, is one of the most magnificent buildings located in the city of Mysore in Southern India. It was the residence of the Wodeyar Maharaja's of the Mysore state.

The Mysore Palace is the second most visited monument of India after Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors per year. The original palace was built of wood which got burnt in the year 1897. The present Mysore Palace depicts a perfect combination of Indo-Saracenic form of architecture which blends together Hindu, Muslim, Rajputana, and Gothic styles of architecture.

The Mysore Palace has four entrances; the main entrance is called ‘Jaya Maarthaanda’ towards east, ‘Jayarama’ towards North, ‘Balarama’ towards South and ‘Varaha’ towards west. It is a three-storied stone structure with marble domes and a 145 ft five-storied tower. The beauty of the Mysore Palace is not to be missed when it is illuminated on Sundays and festive occasion. A part of the Palace has now been transformed into a museum which showcases the paintings and portraits, jewelry, royal costumes and other items owned by Wodeyars. Taking photographs is strictly prohibited inside the Mysore Palace.
